Iambic Pentameter is the rhythm, commonly associated with Shakespere and his contemporaries, which used alternately stressed and un-stressed syllables to create a heartbeat form. It usually comes in the form of ten beat lines, though many writers mess with the structure to create breaks in the text to deliberately trip the reader up & create extra emphasis.
For instance, in Romeo & Juliet the titular characters each have names which contain a central un-stressed syllable and two stressed beats. This means that their name repeated (as happens several times in the play) creates a double beat. In other words, the heartbeat rhythm just skipped a beat.

That's right, I did GCSE English Literature!!
